From Tina:
Favorite Avrey Moment (old) / why?
  • Avrey has played with us for a long time. She was a part of some of our first U12 teams that traveled to tournaments around the country.

Favorite Avrey moment (new)/ why?
  • When Avrey returned to playing post injury, that was a very hard road. She started and then had to stop because her infection returned. She was adament about playing again and pursuing playing field hockey in college. She would come to practice and participate in as little or as much as she could. It was the definition of persistence. It is unbelievable the recovery she has made

Story we will forever tell about Avrey:
  1. Overcoming Adversity. Her injury was unique and life changing. Avrey wanted to stay involved with field hockey even though she couldn't play. She came to the facility, ran concessions, took photos, did anything she could to stay involved when she couldn't play. She even came when she was sick. Her dedication and commitment to returning to field hockey was impressive and something we'll never forget.
Favorite Avery recruiting moment/ why?
  • Avrey's recruiting process was differeent because she wasn't sure if it was even possible post injury. As she started going to clinics, she gained more confidence that it was not only possible, but that she could do it. When she finally committed, it was such a great moment to show that hard work always pays off. No matter the obstacles in her way, Avrey found a way to succeed. Whatever Avrey chooses to do with life, nothing is going to get in her way.

First memory of Avery / why?
  • Avrey came to a summer camp at St. John's when she was in Elementary school. I remember her specifically because my mom was helping run the camp and there was this one girl who my mom had to help all of the time because she didn't want to play. That is normal for kids - it's just what some kids do. Anyway, Avrey really didn't want to play, but her mom dropped her off and Avrey just stayed there. It's pretty impressive that she ended up loving field hockey to play in college.
