From Vivienne:
Favorite Field Hockey Memory? Why?
  • Tying Windy City at our regional indoor to qualify for nationals. It was the best game I’ve ever played, and the whole team pulled together on the court.

What was your most exciting recruiting experience?
  • Getting to finally tell my coaches I was accepting their offer on the phone. They were so excited and it made me 100% sure I made the right choice.

Why are you playing field hockey in college?
  • I honestly can’t imagine not continuing to play field hockey. I love the sport and I’m so happy to get to keep playing at the next level.

What have you been doing to prepare?
  • I’ve been doing lots of running and workouts from home. Hopefully I’ll be able to go to summer school in late June to workout with the team.

If you could give one piece of advice to younger girls who want to play field hockey in college, what would it be?
  • Be patient. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for the right opportunities to open up, but they will. If you work hard and stay diligent in your recruiting process everything will work itself out.

Who was the most influential person in high school?
  • My history teacher and JV field hockey coach Eleanor Cannon. As someone who wants to major in history and is playing in college, having a teacher who did both those things has been super inspiring for me. She’s known me my entire life and been my history teacher for 3 years. She’s taught me so much about how to be a good student but so much more about how to be a good person.

Favorite post practice/ game snack?
  • Hummus, pita chips, and dried mango

What pre game rituals do you use to hype yourself up before a game?
  • I usually try to stay pretty chill before games. I tend to play better when I’m calmer. I do always hit the cage with my stick before the clock starts though.

What made you want to be a college field hockey player?
  • I think I just realized after starting the sport that I never wanted to stop playing it.

What was one of the toughest experiences?
  • My toughest experience was definitely having my ACL reconstruction. The surgery and recovery were really long and painful. It was hard to not be able to play or workout with my team for so long. I’m so thankful for my doctors, coaches, and trainer because I wouldn’t have been able to come back without them. The experience definitely made me a stronger player and reinforced my love for the game. I gained a new appreciation for practice after not being able to train for such an extended period of time.

Year you began playing field hockey? How?
  • In 7th grade I tried to run cross country and I was horrible at it, so the next year I tired field hockey instead and I fell in love with playing goal keeper.

2020 Goalies (Amelia, Annabel & Sofia)
  • Our goalies for 2020 are very special. We have three of them going off to college this fall who have trained together consistently for three years.  While they have always been competition for each other, they have taught each other so many things.  They've changed coaches many times going from super structured coaching to lax individualized coaching and I've picked up the pieces in between.  From all of the change, each of them owned their development and created a learning environment with open critique and self assessment. Open critique from teammates and deliberate practice through self assessment is so hard to accept and learn as a teenager.  This training environment set a standard for our program that will last for years to come.  I will always remember this group for embracing the change and making a lasting impact on our program.  Thank you.
