From Kate:
1. Favorite Field Hockey Memory? Why?
  • My favorite memory was when we went to the Apex Sportsplex as a team and spent the day playing laser tag, watching Emily and SG freak out over the virtual reality zombie game, and going to watch a movie together. It is super fun to see everyone smiling and having a great time together. We definitely work hard, but we also have a ton of fun.

2. What was your most exciting recruiting experience?
  • I really loved meeting people from all over the country and hearing all of their field hockey stories from their own teams.

3. Why are you playing field hockey in college?
  • I have always loved playing sports, and I knew that no matter what, I would still be very active in college. I figured, why not use a sport that I love to help me get the best education possible. This way, I get the best of both worlds.

4. What have you done this summer to prepare?
  • This summer, I have been working hard on recovering from my hamstring tear. It has been a long recovery, but it is satisfying to see it finally start to pay off, so that I can finally go back to doing what I love.

5. If you could give one piece of advice to younger girls who want to play field hockey in college, what would it be?
  • Working hard on the field to improve your game is just as important as working hard to build the relationships with the people around you. Your team is there to lift you up and push you to be your best self on and off the field. A true athlete is a great player and a great teammate.

6. Who was the most influential person in high school?
  • My best friends were definitely the most influential people in high school. Luckily all of us play on the same team, so quality time was never an issue. They always push me to that next level and inspire me to give 110%.

7. Favorite post practice/ game snack?
  • On tournaments, I am always looking forward to my chicken noodle soup in a bread bowl with a strawberry banana smoothie.

8. What pre game rituals do you use to hype yourself up before a game?
  • I don’t really have any pregame rituals, but it is always super fun when we play loud music and dance.

9. What made you want to be a college field hockey player?
  • The chance to attend a highly academic school via the field hockey program was always something that stood out to me. Obviously, like I said before, I always thought that I would be playing sports in college, whether it was for the school or just on my own. For me, the athletic aspect was always there, so my main goal was just to find a great school to further my education.

10. What was one of the toughest experiences?
  • There are always ups and downs, but I have been pretty lucky with the cards I have been dealt, especially when it comes to my teammates and coaches. For me, the toughest experience was definitely when I tore my hamstring in February. It has been a long road back, but it has really made me realize how much I miss field hockey, and it has made me appreciate playing so much more. Instead of field hockey just being a consistent part of my life, I now see it as a privilege.

11.Year you began playing field hockey? How?
  • I began playing field hockey in 6th grade because all of my friends played and had a lot of fun, so I decided to try.

12. Favorite Accomplishments:
  • My favorite accomplishments aren’t necessarily tangible moments. The thing I am most proud of is how far I have come as a player and as a person throughout my years playing field hockey. I have definitely been pushed out of my comfort zone many times, and while it wasn’t always the most fun, it helped me grow so much into the person I am today.

From Tina:
Favorite Kate Moment (old) / why?:
  • Kate was always the friend who really loved playing with her friends and seemed to just like field hockey.  At some point, it moved from just playing because her friends did to something she really wanted for herself. Previously a soccer player, she was good from the start and simply had to get better at ball handling. She was always good at understanding where to be on the field and decision making. Eventually, her hands and skills caught up :)

Favorite Kate moment (new)/ why?:
  • Kate was having a stellar senior year. She was having a great winter season with indoor and Disney right before she tore her hamstring.  I know she's going to continue on that path once she's at Columbia, but she as really starting to play up to her potential right as her injury occurred.

Story we will forever tell about Kate:
  • I will forever talk about her recruiting experience and how she truly hit the road for the entire summer. She was nonstop that summer and persisted with certain schools over and over again until she received her offer.  I think she saw Columbia 4 times that summer at various events until she developed into the player they wanted her to be.  Her and her family really earned that offer from Columbia.

Favorite Kate recruiting moment/ why?
  • I was really proud of Kate when she finally received her offer from Columbia.  She worked extremely hard all summer to develop the areas she needed to work on in order for things to work out at Columbia. When she finally received her offer, it was truly that all of her hard work that summer paid off. She was on the road the entire summer that year going from camp to camp and focusing on continuing to get better.

First memory of Kate / why?
  • Kate joined when she was in 6th grade because all of her friends played field hockey. The difference is that many of those other friends that started in 6th grade ultimately didn't continue playing. Kate stuck with it over the years eventually earning her way onto the U14, U16 and U19 superstar teams.
